So I had my 1st interview today with a senior manager in Deloitte. I mention previously during my phone interview that I have an MBA offer from on of the top 5 uni n the UKSo today the senior manager mentioned that he did an MBA too and he comes from the same background/industry as me, however he said he doesn't see where I fit in organisation.He finished by saying " Good luck with your MBA"I literally lost words..

Perhaps there's more to it than your background on paper, huh?

Ouch - sorry to hear that.Were you clear within yourself where you'd fit? i.e at what grade and in which practice? Assuming both would be pretty clear from the job you applied for.Do you feel you could have tried to bridge that gap between your expectations and his assumption?It's quite bold to mention your other options before you even have an offer though.

DtBunk,At first I was not sure what to say then I explained that I have the right transferrable skills and experience to fit in. I am not sure if mentioning the MBA was a good move!

I hope it doesn't come across as callous but its all a learning experience and maybe you won't be so open in future!Were you going in as an experienced hire? Did you press to understand why he couldn't see where you would fit within the org?Chin up though, an MBA from a top school is a pretty strong ticket!
