Hi guys,I need help deciding on an accounting qualification. Well, in reality, I don’t have a choice because the firm I am going into is going to pay for my CIMA qualification, but I had originally wanted to do ACCA. I am going into consulting, but later in life do want to go to industry. I had never had this doubt of which qualification to go for as I had originally thought that as you build up experience, which accounting qualification you have is not important. But a colleague today informed me how CIMA can limit you and is not that well known etcetc, causing doubt in my mind.So would it be worth trying to convince my manager to let me do ACCA instead, or even complete both ACCA and CIMA. I have 7 exemptions from ACCA qualification anyway due to university..

You get exemptions with both. What do you want to 'specialise' in? I did ACCA and focussed on Tax. If you're with an audit firm and will be doing audit and assurance, I'd recommend ACCA.

I contacted both ACCA and CIMA, I only got ACCA exemptions (sadly, because I have covered at least 3 of the modules on CIMA in university). Originally, I wanted to do ACCA and specialise in tax, however, life decided otherwise. I am not sure what I want to specialise in now, so I want to keep my options open..
