£40k? Maybe outside London but I've never heard of a SC being on less than £49k in London?

I'm on £43k in London, was told (reliably - unfortunately) I couldn't get a raise this year because I'm not near the bottom of the band.

That surprises me. I'm in CF (in one of the more "consulting"-type bits) and got £52k when I was promoted to M2 a few years ago now.

SCO - can not be right, C (M1) goes up well beyond £43k, so if your a SC (M2) you must be on more.Curious:A->C->SC->M->SM->Di->Pa

There are big overlaps between all the bands, and a big spread depending on when/where people were hired/transferred in/etc. Directors can be on as little as 65 and as much as 120k - some are gifted titles, others are senior external advisors who don't want to be partners and give up their external directorships, political positions, etc.

Consultant range has widened to 37-42k so who knows what they're bringing SCs in on now. Expect changes to the boundaries with the new promotion guidelines.

Around £43.5k as M1 (so no £5k benefits).

I'm surprised too...I know its circa 50-55k for an SC. It's probably worth a discussion and a comparison with similar grades across all the firms (that's how I got a rise in a very polite email)...if you don't ask you definitely won't get.

For what it's worth I started in London as an SC last year on £49k + £5k benefits. I'm extremely curious to see whether we get much in the way of raises this year.

Rick - was that from being promoted from C? If so, what annual rating did you get? I assume the higher the rating, the higher the starting sal?

Yup, promoted from Consultant with a 4. My impression at the time was that the salary was pretty much the same for all newly promoted SCs. If anything, it seemed a little bit low as various colleagues had started on £49k even 3 years before I got there. In real-terms therefore Deloitte has been cutting the starting salary as inflation has been running at around 2.5% for a while now.

Well, that's only fair because per capita fee income has been flat for years, and profit per partner has been declining quite sharply... haven't they... ah... umm... wait a minute...

Most of the SCs are in 52-55 K. Atleast, those that I know...
