Do you think there will be more cuts this year, or will they wait until after Christmas?

My guess is that once the dust has settled there will be another round. This time round the number of redundancies was just less than the number where a protracted period of consultation was necessary. Is this the time for all staff to join a Union, hopefully the same one, such that all the interests of staff can be represent as one, just like a class action.Watch out for people who just 'disappear' without warning just like there were just before the latest of cuts. Not normal resignations.Next round just before Christmas?? or after the annual appraisal cycle. Anything is possible in PA.Join a UNION and fight together

Step 1 in forearming yourself for the next round of job cuts is to start a Data Protection Subject Access Request process to obtain all personal data including the Read Across Spreadsheets. If nothing else, this will hugely p*ss of HR and the lazy partners. If the company tries to impose pay cuts, as is rumoured, you are under no obligation to accept one, and any future redundancies cannot be made on the basis of non-acceptance of these bullying tacticsA union seems like a good idea. Which one though?

Hmmm. PA tried the bullyboy tactics once before when the DB pension scheme was wound up and staff had to sign-up to its closure. Disciplinary action was threatened against those who were against the closure. Some staff were made to feel extremely uncomfortable. Are these the actions of a caring company?I like the idea of a Union. People just need to join up and the Unions need to promote themselves internally. I would happily join one.

Unite would seem the obvious union for me, as they are widespread in other professional services. There is no reason why management consultants should not be protected in the same way as other workers are.So who is going to be the first one to join? We all know that the partners will put huge pressure on anyone who makes an effort to organise.

it's not a bad idea to join a union. I could have done with them when I was at PA.

would consider PA as an employer.....

speaking to an insider the other day it appears that only 5% of PA staff were made redunant. If you expect 10% churn anyway p.a. and the lowest performing staff were managed out then it would be an average year in the rest of the major consulting firms. So it seems to me you only have to worry if you underperform andspend your day on message boards, and if you were actually committed to and good at your job you will be fine. I'd work for PA - high achievers get rewarded with great bonuses and not dragged down by a winging few

"So it seems to me you only have to worry if you underperform andspend your day on message boards, and if you were actually committed to and good at your job you will be fine"Wrong - what a ridiculous statement.Plenty of people who have worked extremely hard and delivered what has been expected of them have been disposed of via the redundancy process.Read the previous posts about manipulation of the appraisal process, and the NECESSITY of having a certain proportion on PIPs regardless of their actual performance. The redundancy process has been used to get rid of the people who don't "fit" (for whatever subjective reason) and protect the "favoured ones" (who are not necessarily making their numbers, in fact, but always ensure they scratch the right back). If the PIP process was actually fair/objective/justifiable don't you think that more people would have been fired for "under performance" instead of being made redundant?

"Wow !! That made me laugh out loud ! Would be surprised if any more cuts, think it's just people making mischief.

"It's not a record year but anyone who read the mid-year communication would know that it's still a good year. Would be surprised if any more cuts, think it's just people making mischief."I didn’t think there would be any cuts either, until the last round came. PA’s remuneration model has always been crappy basic, and a flexible bonus so that at least we know there won’t be any redundancies. What a pile of cobblers that has proved to be.I have no doubt there will be more job cuts, with all the people now on the bench. I wouldn’t put it past our leaders to wait until Christmas week to make the announcement – just look at the sensitivity the partners showed at the latest round. Do these guys have no conscience?

Unite
05.11.9 00:00

Unite have just announced a 3 day strike at Fujitsu, so there's now a precedent! "According to the union, this would be the first ever national strike in the IT sector in the UK. The strike is over proposals for 1,200 redundancies in the UK with the first commencing in December, a pay freeze imposed earlier this year, and plans by the company to close the final salary pension scheme to future accrual, reducing the total pay package of each affected employee by typically around 20 per cent."The strike is to take place on 12th, 13th and 16th November...
