A friend who's a graduate at PWC told me everyone in the Manchester office had to update their CV's so she was concerned that they were essentially having to re-apply for their jobs

Could be, but "update your CV" is standard demand when sales are slow/people on the beach. A certain type of partner is always terrified that they will miss a big sales opp because they were unaware that Jimmy Smith in the Bolton office has three months experience they did not know about.I always found that the Partners that made the most noise about it were those that sold bodyshop solutions - "here have one guy who's done what you want to do at one of your competitors...." sort of thing.

Anyone at pwc is only getting 97% of their salaries (not sure if that's in effect to all staff immediately or just when people are promoted or if you are new).PwC pay poorly anyway, and this cut doesn't help. If you're worried, go to Deloitte, they pay more than the other Big 4

97% of their salaries? What kind of bozo would demotivate and unsettle their entire workforce bigtime just for the sake of a poxy little 3% temporary saving on the payroll? Surely they can find some other way to plug that little gap?
