I am just about to turn down a MBB offer for a job in industy. Am i bonkers? The factors I considered are the following:- slights higher salary in industry- distinctly less hours in industry- less imminenet pressures (job loss, up or out)- more time to dedicate to family / wife etc- 'real' experience in an economic moment of trunaround. If i am crazy someone please tell me now, im still in time! Thank youE

What's the role in industry?I fail to see how it could be mad. This is your one life, don't waste it knocking out pointless spreadies and ppt.'s 70hrs a week when you can make more money doing less hours somewhere else.

I think you have made the right decision. I joined MBB as a graduate and it was only when I became an 'up or out' victim during a recession (in which a third of their staff were quietly 'counselled out') that I realised just how great life is when you don't have to spend so much of it in cubicle land surrounded by American MBAs (I love the Americans by the way, but their business schools don't half churn out some right over-competitive idiots). If one of my children ever got an offer and joined MBB, I would actually physically go there and drag them back. I wouldn't wish that experience on anybody. Life's too short. But, that's just my humble opinion...

The fact that you didn't list any positives of the MBB offer speaks volumes Edmund. You actually seem pretty at ease with your decision so go with it and don't question it. You'll probably get a little buyers remorse in your first few weeks but that will pass.
