Are the only types of true Assets (i.e. things which have a secure cash flow) to be found in the Utilities, Infrastructure and Commercial Real Estate sectors. It seems to me that the only clients who can really afford consulting come from one of these sectors - or the Government.

Not sure what you mean by secure cash flow. Many established businesses have more intangible than tangible assets and yet have good cah flows e.g financial services; branded FMCG.The real driver of consultancy demand is that they are more interested in "doing stuff" than in costs. This is generally organisations with lots of cash - was FS and now Government.

I don't think FS has secure Cash Flows at the moment. Large FMCGs, i.e Boots, are supported by huge Commercial Real Estate portfolios; witness the repeated attempts by PE firms to buyout Sainsbury's in order to mortgage off their Shops. I am not saying that every other type of business is just a bunch of cowboys trying to make a fast buck.

I hear that the healthcare sector is a good one to go into, as there are a lot of rich old farts around who are living forever and are plundering generations and generations worth of accumulated inherited wealth and property price increases on keeping themselves going Monty Burns style.
