I've been with my employer 3 years, a top performer always in the top percentile of my peer group. Recently I was relocated by same employer against a backdrop of major changes in my private life - significantly divorce. I'm very unhappy in my new location though, and far from the friends and family I thought I would need to help me through.Should I stay or go?

Sorry to hear of your bad news. If you just leave you may find it difficult to find a job and may end up having to compromise and accept a role from which your career may struggle to recover. I am afraid that’s the hard reality. The obvious compromise is to actively look for a new role without leaving/resigning. That will help on the emotional front a little in that at least you will feel you are trying to get back to where you need to be. Beware of rose tinted spectacles though: before accepting a job ask yourself if it really is a good move and one that you would have considered but for your circumstances.

You have a job, so why complain. Everyone has to do things they don't want to do. This is valued by employees. Thats life!

Hi Anon, Sorry to hear about the divorce - clearly this is not a good time for you. May I suggest that you do not make any rash decisions. You have two options (in my view):1. You are going through a period of change, so think about what you want to do going forward (e.g. fresh start, new job/organisation, a clean sheet of paper).2. Grin and bear it until you find something else in order to achieve some sort of stability in your life whilst you are going through the divorce (to keep you sane during the rough patch)As you can tell I talk from experience.........Regards

Anon, feel how you are feeling. Like Popy said, think carefully about your future. It's not a good feeling in a divorce, but keep chin up and life goes on.We can all get blurred in situations like this and need a clear mind to think what next. By all means, avoid rash decisions. Have you considered whether quitting your current role, will you land on another role easily?
