KPMG and PWC, from my experience, are the most tolerant. PA seems like the worst - And I work for them, so I should know.

KPMG was quite tolerant of both sickies and working from home. I had colleagues in my small team that I would hardly ever see year in, year out! Some of these lived out in the English countryside and couldn't be bothered with the commute into the office....

KPMG ans PwC are actively encouraging unpaid sabbaticals.Any large firm will "tolerate" sickies equally because one individual's absence doesn't make a huge difference. Also, it doesn't matter if you p-off some ppl by pulling a sicky on their project - you can just work with other ppl when you come back. In smaller firms, one person's absence is more noticeable.

3 sickies...You're joking....PA is a haven for sickie-meisters. The HR department would not question a thing. As long as you have a plausible excuse and a doctor's note you are fine.

In these tough times, consultancies will not focus too intensively on the small number of individuals who call in 'sick' as long as this is for a short period. This is on the basis that they might be on the bench anyhow. What's clear though - people who make a habit out of taking sickies will find that their careers are severely limited (no promo no payrise). Often these people are 'managed out' by sending them on the worst and most remote client engagements.

Saw a lot of sickness at PA when I was there. No reason to believe that it wasn't genuine either.

It's sick the way companies like PA have plundered this country's public finances for consultancy services which weren't needed and delivered nothing.

@TaxedYou speak the truth. PA were even on the BBC News last night offering "value added insight" to the government on where they could save money. Here's my tuppence - close all the PA contracts. They have milked the UK public sector for years
