I am interviewing for a job in a different city. For the interview process, I want to to be treated like a rock star- be picked up at the airport in a limo, complete with chicks and booze waiting for me in the limo, and then whisked away to do my interview. The position i am interviewing for is not a junior position, but it aint CEO-Level either.I dont want the client to pay for this treatment, as I think that will send them the wrong message. I want the recruitment company to pay for this. Will they? the job i am interviewing for pays about 120k.Is it advisable making this request to the recruiter? Whats the worst that could happen? I am sure they have gotten stranger requests before. The client is a large IT stategy company, and the job is mostly around IT strategy, information architectures, strategic process optimisation etc.

I like your style. You should also insist that they close the roads and give you a security motorcade so you're not held up by the peasants.

Recruiters notoriously have short arms and deep pockets. After they stop laughing and pick themselves up off the floor, they will tell you that you'll get sweet FA from them. The best you can realistically hope for is that the interviewing company will pay for your travel, which is likely to be a second class train ticket and a taxi. What's the worst that can happen? The recruiter can think that you're an self-important twat and ignore your CV for any roles in the future.(I am picturing you turning up for your interview in the pink limo in Shameless. Class!)

hold on, maybe you didnt fully understand the situation:The position is in a niche area; they cant readily fill this because its hard to find such candidates. Thus, i believe that the recruiter may actually be open to such a request. This position has been open for a while and i probably dont have much competition. Also, given the salary, i beleive its may be worthwhile for the recruiter to actually do this. In addition, they know i am well connected and can bring in more business to them ( that is, if they treat me right).

what you ask if very common in call girl industry. where recruiter is typically pimp setting you up against a client. and pimp pays for all the good transport, safety etc etc (ofcourse charged back to client in one way or another).may be its time for you to think of changing your profession if this is it what you are looking for. and ofcourse you can always get screwed and get paid and come back and do IT strategy !!!

Agree with a prior poster- you should ask for a motocade, police escort , block the streets till you get to your interview. Heaven forbid a peasant should inconvenience you.By the way, please let us know how the job interview went.

What I meant to say (of course) is that I ask my driver to run them over.

As a pleb oft targetted by the motorcades of flash IT consultants and recruiters like Batsman and Mars I find this thread deeply hurtful. We have feelings too.

Just recently, bored of driving at MCs who have the sense to dodge out of the way, I've asked my driver to tie a £50 note to the front of the limo before we aim at IBers: the ones who run are cowards, the ones who stand still are cowards who didn't get a bonus :)

An update:The interview went extremely well; they offered me the job already.I chose not to ask for the lavish arrangement. However, they did pay for the expenses ( economy), paid they still paid for it...

did you not consider changing the industry as advised in one of my early posts...see couple of posts about.....and best is that you do not loose any thing because after getting screwed (which for sure clietns will for the money they pay); you can always come back and do IT strategy.

It's a funny thread Top Batsman but your figure dosn't add up. Limo option - uncool and associated with teenage girls and 18th birthdays, or pink pop stars. Its not really on message. Security motorcade - not convinced. Suppose they are shortlisting 3 candidates (any firm in a niche strategy in this economic climate that's not interviewing three or more candidates would mean you are taking on more of a liability than a risk). On average you're only worth 40k unless they hire you. Even presidents earn more than 40k and helmeted outriders cost money.Ever considered requesting that short-listed candidates get a smart car for the day? I can ill afford any further nerdish delays sold in my area when I go off to work in the mornings. Plus your competitors might at least get lost on the way. And anyway even if you dont get the job at least you would get to see another city. Dont let us stop you interviewing or threading if you want to!

What's with all the focus on motorcades, limos etc. Why not make sure they get the important stuff right like removing all the blue smarties from the tube, 5,000 crates of Evian, rose petals showered all round the interview room, ditto scented oils etc. 'tis what a real soooooperstar does.YoursJ-Lo

You are all wrong. I don't travel to interview at all: instead I INSIST that any company that wants to hire MOI relocates its HQ to at most a 10 minute walk from my house.
