Hi,I have offers from a big tech consulting firm and from a boutique strat firm.Having interned in them both I know the work is much more interesting and useful as a learning experience in the boutique. I am however worried that I should opt for the very well known and respected name for brand on the CV.Thoughts?

I would go for the big name tech - at this level, a cv will be enhanced further if a structured, well known and respected grad prgogramme is glossing the front page. You only need to stay for 2 years if you dont like it! Then you can use your contacts in the strat firm to make an entry...

Agreed with the prev response. Go for the big name. The work will not be as exciting as the small boutique, but you are early in your career , and you really need brand name. Believe me , your life will be much easier later down the line with the backing of big name on your resume. As the prev reviewer said, all you have to do is stay for 2-3 yrs and then leave!

i disagree with the top 2 postersgo for the experience. the brand will only do you good if you want to continue tech consulting. if you want strat consulting, u need strat consulting experience.i have done both tech and strat work and can tell you they are very different, require different skill sets and put you on different paths

The work you do as a junior is 99% identical across consultancies, so go for the brand.

I disagree, I have a lot more responsibilities in a small boutique firm than my friends at well-known consultancies. Not only am I more involved in client work right from the start but I am also part of the growing success and feel as if I have properly contributed to make a difference. Often this is not the case with big firms as you're a very small fish in a big pond.
