Hey folks,Need advice from the veterans here. I have been working on the IT projects with Fortune 25 financial firms since last 5 years. Have executed quite sizeable projects and those which were quite significant from biz perspective as well. Now planning to do my MBA (from tier II of top 20 b-schools) and transition to Management consulting.1. Is it a good idea for a person with IT Business Analysis and Project Managemtn background? Will I be able to break into MBBB ?2. How is IT consulting as a career ? Working with full service firms like CapG, ACN, Deloitte etc.Not quite have enuff information about this. Help appreciated.

1. Close to impossible2. IT consulting is just like working in industry within IT, but worse. Your expected to work like a lot longer then you would in industry for less pay.

Experience in IT business analysis and project management is useful to make a transition into MC. You really have to shpw the business side of things in your projects. For example, by implementing IT system XYZ, you were able to enable a key business strategic imperative ( such as increase enter new markets). The above is an example, but gives you an idea of how you have to spin it going from IT to MC. I assume that your time in IT was not technical, but rather business facing (and therefore being all about the business and their issues). If it was technical, its going to harder, and you'll be best suited for engineering or some technical MC roles such as operational MC roles in say telcommunications ( but employed by MC).The MBA will definately help.Else, you could always try IT consulting ( ACN, CGEY, IBM, Etc). They too have many 'business facing' IT roles. Just be sure what you want: business facing or technical ( not always easy to transition between the two).
