Could you rank these firms (Booz, Monitor, ATK, OC&C) in terms of reputation and exit opportunitites in UK?I think that compensation on standard post-MBA positions in all of them is about the same. Isn't it?

I'd move OC&C to the bottom of the list or remove them. They have a name among undergraduates in the UK, but not clients or experienced consultants. Their reputation is purely based on their spending on graduate recruitment materials, so not reflective of market positioning.

Could you rank Roland Berger and LEK Consulting too (in UK)? I've just forgot to mention them in my first question.

Mars,What's the basis for the exit ops ranking?Perhaps an odd question to ask on a consulting forum but which is best for work-life balance overall?

Hi Mars, just wondering what your thoughts would be (as you've given sound advice before); I work for one of the firms mentioned above and have been there about half a year, coming from a couple of years in industry before. I knew the score coming into this industry but am finding the consistent hundred hour weeks tough and don't see this as a sustainable lifestyle. I'm thinking about getting out but would I be better to hang on for a bit longer? Half a year seems short. Also, in relation to the thread I would rank in reputation:BoozATKMonitorOC&CI think Booz and ATK would have the best opportunities with relatively similar post MBA salaries. Thanks

ASFAIK, Roland Berger is not respected in UK and occupies position on the level of OC&C.As for LEK, it's quite good and competitive even with the pool of MBB.

IMHO, for reputation and exit opportunities...BoozATKOC&CMonitorThat said, Booz can be a bit of a meat grinder from what I hear from the folks that I know who have worked there. More so than other consulting firms at least.EC

Have also heard Booz can be very hard (in an industry where the hours are already difficult!). Just don't go thinking that the other firms have it 'easy'

Booz, Monitor, ATK, LEK, RB, OC&C in that order. Not much between the last 3 really: RB in UK has had a bit of an up and down history and the other two have , I think, been “letting people go”. LEK have horrific work life balance: 80-100 hours PW including weekends.

In a couple of years at LEK I worked one week over 80 hours, and a few hours of one weekend on a Saturday afternoon. It is not that bad, although perhaps others have had it worse. You get a day off in lieu if you work 70+ hours or the weekend. And you get to sleep in your own bed rather than the Grimsby Travelodge.

second that. don't know why LEK has got this reputation of working its people hard, it's actually really not bad. half of the office leaves at 7, that's during busy times. you rarely work at weekends. it's only in the last week of a project you would work long hours, and that's only when the project is badly managed!
