Hallo, after almost three experience in a blue chip chemical company (Development, I lead a team of three), would like to switch to management consulting. I have very good academics and the job interests me a lot. I believe I have the right human skills as well. Is this step realistic or should I forget it? Which companies would you recommend? Could you please advice? Thanks in advance

Hi Tim, sorry: I did not want to disappoint anybody and am new to this Forum. I am intersted in strategy. Which could be the best employer (McKinsey, BCC, others...)? After my experience do you think is it a realistic move? Thanks

Not sure if you have 3 weeks, 3 years or 3 decades' experience. With so little information it's going to be hard for anyone to help. The best way of finding out is to try it - apply and see what happens.Oh, and one thing a management consultant needs (for all the excel work!) is attention to detail. Be careful!

Don't worry about tiny tim. he has a small knob and has to go on forums to big himself up.Sounds like you have good experience and if your academics are up to scratch as you say you could defo move to consulting, don't narrow your scope to mck and bain etc though as there's lots of other decent firms out there.

MC is a very broad industry, so it might help you to consider the kind of work you want to do, then apply to firms with a good rep in that space, whether it be types of project or particular sectors you are interested in. Can't recommend any particular firms as it's all oranges and lemons for everyone.

Thanks everybody for comments and suggestions (Tim is right: details count!). I have 3 YEARS experience in the chemical industry. I will start replying specific job ads, even though the experience in Development may be not so relevant for the new role (at the moment this is the point that worries me most). I am applying meanwhile for a post-grauduate study programme in management (to build some basis in management-economics that I do not have at the moment). The programme is short (but expensive). Do you think is it a good move? Thanks.

Just one thing Joy. If you are going for a job in consulting, you need to sort out your attention to detail if you want to be taken seriously. You seem to have problems with your spelling and grammar.
