hi,I needed to know if there is a form to be filled , wherein you give your employment and education details, for a background check once you have been made an offer (graduate level).Or is it that they do a background check themselves based on the information you provided in the application form?thanks

Ridiculous question. Will grace with a response anyway. As you can see from my name, I post a lot of responses to various questions.1. We don't know which firm you are talking about - please don't tell me you think every company operates in exactly the same manner2. Think about what you told them already. Is it enough information to do a background check?3. Why not ask them? I dare say they know better than an anonymous forum

1. As I am not an expert in background checks I thought most companies will operate in a similar manner.2. Don't they do a background check irrespective of what I tell them?3. I will ask them but the high and mighty that spend their time on this forum can shed some light, can't they!4. mac, well I have made a mistake, extended my previous work experience by a couple of months and I was wondering if I could get away with it.

You really aren't an expert in background checks are you?!I think you mean checking references. It's a whole different kettle of fish. Since you still haven't told us which firm it is, we still can't help you. Some do, some don't. Many do sporadic reference checks. So, to reference your replies:1. No2. They don't do a REFERENCE check if you don't have any references to check. In your case it sounds like your application does have details on it3. Not unless we have specifics and / or the sufficient motivation4. Silly child, but you probably will after the first 6 months of your career sweating on that call / email asking to meet someone from HR with your line manager present

At graduate level, I don't think they're going to bother checking your experience, though you might get a few questions during your interview about what you did there. Surely all they're likely to check is your academics, if that? And if the worst comes to the worst, son, then can you say you made a simple mistake or typo? You won't be the first person to have got a few dates wrong on their CV by accident. Was it June, was it May, I can't really remember. Was it 5/8/08 or 8/5/08 - easily done. Did I put June? Oh I meant July. etc
