Hi everyone I am a consultant at one of the big full service consulting firms with 2 1/2 years experience. My question is to those who have done an MBA to move into 'more interesting' work in a strat firm. Is it worth it? I'm not engaged by the work I'm doing but concerned that taking a year out of work and getting into debt to get paid marginally more money in a strat firm might not be worth it! Also interested in how good a lifestyle it is and whether the work is as interesting as I'd hope?

Poor work-life balance. Work's no more interesting or challenging. Not worth the cost of an MBA.

I'm sorry I disagree. The MBB myth whilst being forlornly perpetuated by insecure, tenacious over achievers is still a better bet than say going in at manager level at ACN, where one would immerse themselves in some of the most intractable challenges busineess face: namely process mapping, IT architecture, configuration management (??), PMO, IT strategy (my favourite)ZB

Agree it might be better in terms of work, but I will put it to you this way - Dont expect an MBA to change you life drastically, it might get you to the front of the door but after that is over son, you are own you own...Ask yourself what you want to do in life and where you want to go to and if strat house is you destination then you need to rethink things and assess your value system sir/mam

Any other comments?I can potentially stay in my firm and go all the way to partner without an MBA and still have a life outside of work (though the work itself is dull dull dull) or I could leave in the next year or 2 to go for an MBA and attempt to get in to one of the 'top tier' firms.
