I am interested in knowing what everyone's most interesting project has been just to get a feel of what other people have done in consulting.I'll start. My most interesting project was a strategic planning project. My group was responsible for developing the strategic vision and direction that the client should take by perform a strategic analysis on industry, competitive, consumer trends. We performed various scenario analysis and developed a 5 year growth plan, recommending what specific things the client must do to achieve their strategy.I was involved in the entire process and had direct contact with the clients VPs. =)

Why do you MCs always get so thrilled about having "direct contact" with senior client staff? Does it make you feel more important? I find it odd, to be honest.

Boaby... While I have to admit that Carly's project seems pretty normal / not particularly inspiring, it is the reason I moved to a strategy consultancy from industry. It covers a broad scope of skills and can only be good for your career to work on.Working with senior clients on such a project lends it respectability and makes it more likely to be accepted and implemented. It means that what you're doing is more likely to matter and is more likely to have an impact.Within industry, you typically deal with the lowest denominator - be it a project manager etc., whereas within consulting it is much more likely that you will get access to actual decision makers within companies. This is exciting to relatively junior people as we get to a) directly influence a much wider sphere and b) get to work with people who to be frank aren't plebs - they have made it to a senior level for a reason - they stretch you intellectually, in terms of delivery, or even both. In short, they're more interesting to work for / with.

I got called in by a major bank a few years ago to advise on ways to make more money. I came up with a novel scheme to securitise sub-prime mortgage debt. It was a roaring success and I'm really proud of it. I reckon it's the future of the banking industry.

A corporate asked me to help drive an ERP implementation across its business. It was primarily looking for a system that didn't work correctly and disrupted all its processes. I am pleased to say I delivered on all key metrics. I also ensured we were over budget - HIGH FIVE!
