24,600 job cuts in EDS - the walls, carpets and ceilings will be awash with blood. I'd best dust down my CV. Nothing else to say really, I'm numb.EDS gets a lot of flack, most of it deserved, but even so this was way more than I thought

And only today, 7 months after passing my EDS graduate assessment day, I finally had my placement interview. I guess that's out the window.

Not necessarily, bright young grads are usually always welcome because they are quick to learn, enthusiastic and of course cheap. First in the firing line are all admin, head office types. Next are those in IT operations, HP are into automation. US heavily hit. In the long run the changes will create a lean mean EDS machine, I just hope I'm there to see it.

I expect that UK graduate recruitment will continue in a fasion - or at least the demand for it from projects will still be there as with other project level staff. It is the higher echelons that will be up for the chop, and where there functions performed by both HP and EDS. Getting yourself into the EDS Defence arm could be smart - since this in an area where HP does not have a massive presence.Shall have to wait and see really.

EDSer - maybe i'm missing something here but how does a company laying off 24,600 people constitute a good place to start your career. Maybe if you like playing Russian roulette with your future then give it a go!!

a first job is about getting a couple of years good work experience, there is plenty of that, then you move on, the problem is for the long termers who have the wrong skills
