Hello everyone - I was planning to join consulting about 6 months ago - I am very happy I am now not in consulting because of what is happening at the moment. Economy is in bad shape and reading most of the treads it seems that consulting is not anymore the glamorous place it use to be. All the best to all of you.

Like you said, the economy is bad, a lot of companies are scaling back, not just consulting/ib. 'Sounds to me like you're someone who can't get into consulting and is just trying to feel better about yourself by making others feel bad...

Doesn't sound to me like he even has that much sense. I'm in consulting (3 yrs experience), and have started looking around for vacancies. Every other consultancy so far to have seen my CV has confirmed they're recruiting. The two that have interviewed me say they have yet to see any slackening in demand. Likewise for my current employer. All these three are large full-service firms.Yes I think perhaps a certain amount of caution is perhaps being exercised around graduate recruitment, but overall the market's looking pretty healthy. Fortunately we all know this stuff well enough to prevent insecure runts like the OP from getting us down.T

I concur. There seem to be a lot of people recruiting at the moment, but more so at the senior levels. And if not IB or Consultancy, what else would you go into? I'm guessing not Law or Medicine, so just an average paid job??

Look, I work in Consulting in London at a very, very, very senior level. In fact, I’m the most senior person in Consulting in London – well in the South East actually. Everyone is recruiting – there you go, I’ve said it.

Consulting actually likes a bit of volatility in the market as this is when our services really come to the fore. Other than Accenture, I have not heard of any major consulting firms freezing recruitment or making staff redundant.

Foufou, Why not get a job as a (cheap) tabloid headline writer? In terms of understanding how highly geared professional service firms prosper in turbulent markets, I don't see any signs of you having the required skill set...

I am extremely senior and important, not only in London, and not only in the South East; I am in fact the most important and senior MC in Western Europe. We like it choppy - there you go, I have dictated, and all is well.
