I'm becoming fed up with the consultancy lifestyle - in particular no being able have a regular routine to my life (like signing up to an evening language class).I'm fed up of living away from home, when having to work outside of LondonI excel at what I do and don't feel suitabally challenged. The only thing I'm enjoying at the moment is the salary. This moan has helped me clear my head - it's not worth it.

Yep, it's a pain. Not that you're looking for advice, but when I feel like this I find it helps to set a milestone to make a change. Scale of the change depends on the scale of the ennui - e.g. apply for a transfer at the end of the summer, change jobs at the end of the year, holiday at the end of the month.

You can get good jobs in industry with similar pay but it takes time and a network. So take your time build your network and when you feel the right opportunity is there, make the shift. The problem is in industry, pay rises are not great and when you come from the outside, you will be expected to deliver results in a short time. Trust me, I know. One final piece of advice, make sure you know what industry you want to get into. No point being an industry you dont like. Media and internet companies have the glamour but public sector and utilities have the work life balance, banking has/had the money while oil raises ethical issues. Just take a long weekend somewhere quiet and think about this.
