Without knowing too much on the matter I'm guessing it depends on how many years exp and what areas of expertise you have. (As there's rarely a department called "Strategy" in industry). If you have an accounting qualification i guess you can join Corporate Finance / Management accountantOr perhaps marketing?

You can move into strategy roles in industry (e.g. Strategy Manager, Strategy Director) or as noted more financially orientated roles. Some organisations also have internal consulting functions.

Is post-consulting compensation package typically comparable with the compensation at strategy consulting? Is it possible to leap into Business Unit management level positions ? What about current demand?

Depending on your seniority in consulting, you may be able to get a "manager-grade" job in industry, but off the bat won't get P&L or people management responsibility - you tend to move into a "individual specialist" role in an area aligned to your consulting background then demonstrate your abilities working within the organisation, build your networks, etc. and can then gradually move into roles in the "general manager" stream. Alternatively, if you're working within a large organisation in industry, you can stay within "individual specialist" roles for quite a while as you work your way up.

Providing you can put words in your CV that precisely match the words the recruiter is looking for, you'll be OK irrespective of background. From my own experience as well as that of many other experienced consultants, many recruiters take a "tick-box" kind of approach and don't really understand what the job entails or the concept of transferable skills. Even those that think and act like they know what the job entails invariably don't. So, as a candidate, you just have to pack your CV with words that make it an unmistakably exact match with the job description for the role you are applying for.Let the tidal wave of abuse from the recruiters now begin. True headhunters excepted, as the above does not apply to them.

For what its worth:Id say its way more dependent on what u've actually done in your projects n assignents (as opposed to the name of the consultancy firm where you did it) and what people youve manged to connect with. I've worked both in industry and as consultant and I have to tell you that most people ive met havent had a clue what difference there are between different consultancy firms. (Except for consultants of course, who see the name of the firm on your CV as life defining)
