Hi,I have seen a ad for a 40 consultant 7 year old consultancy who is branching into industrial/ production consulting. The pay offered for a graduate role is £32000 + signing-on bonus + Audi A3 + profit share. I am really interested but would probably rather not go through an agency. Anyone know who the client might be? (I don't want to put the link on here because I'm sure Tony wouldn't be pleased.)Cheers, anon

Sounds like a recruiter trying to find a new client to me.If this is genuine then why would you "probably" rather not go through an agency?

I can assure you that I am not a recruiter. I would just rather go directly to the company involved. Do a search for "40 consultant 7 year old consultancy production UK" and it is the second result in google (for me anyway).

I know this debate has been done to death on here, but why would you not want to go through an agency? Assuming they are reputable, they have (presumably) been employed by the client to find people, they have paid money to place an ad, will be able to brief you on the role and help you through the process, present your CV to the company in a professional way....etc...etc.But no, I agree it is much better to send a generalised CV through the website and hope you get picked over the other 1000 applicants. Good thinking from yet another graduate who has no idea of the role of recruiters in this industry and think we're all working for Addeco, making 200 calls a day and selling our souls. This is why I don't work with grads (and the tiny fees)!! Rant over.

Worthwhile rant Chump, worth repeating occasionally.Anyway, anon it looks like some sort of Six Sigma/Lean/Continuous Improvement work - so send your CV to the ones doing that sort of stuff on this scale e.g. George Group (part of ACN services), Venturehaus, Distinct are a few that come to mind. Frankly the whole thing looks a little sus - and the package (given the quant of hires needed - 30? All get an audi etc?) looks like dangling carrotts you'll never get.

Thank you Chump & Mars. Indeed it does sound a bit suspect, and I can see why you don't want to apply to a company named after a sandwich, but it is probably worthwhile speaking to the recruiter anyway. All a bit "Carlsberg don't do jobs for graduates, but if they did..."

It looks like a phantom role to me - written to attract CVs. 32K is frankly odd for a grad role unless you are clearly talking about something very blue chip. This looks more potato chip.I think one of my clients mentioned these sandwich folks previously - didn't rate them.

Well, its not the salary that appealed to me. I have an offer for more, but the work sounded really interesting. Anyone know of consultancies offering similar roles that would be good on the CV. I'm definitely looking for something well above Big 4 standard. I know it takes a slating but how about PA? I suppose it is arguable as to whether it is "well above" big 4?

Depends which Big 4 you are talking about. Deloitte would consider itself a better consulting firm than PA.

without wanting to be too cutting, i have only ever met one good person from PA and i have worked with quite a few - they just seem really mediocre
