Some advice on management consulting and professional qualifications would really be appreciated.I am currently working for Accenture as an IT analyst, but really want to get involved in business/management consulting as this is what I’m interested in. I want to start my CIMA certification as this seems a good place to start, but am unsure if it is the right course for a career in consulting?Furthermore, as Accenture focuses mainly on IT I have started looking at other companies such as Deloitte, PWC, PA Consulting and McKinsey. I would like to find out more about these companies, could someone help in this area? Thanks for the help

Sorry to sound b1tchy, but you might want to try searching the 10,000+ threads on this forum on that exact subject first. Also don't take it personally when a poster call "ZB" tells you that you have no chance, you are a charlatan waster, not good enough to grace this earth blah blah blah.

Accenture has an excellent Management Consulting practice. The total group is much smaller than the IT side, and they do compete with top-tier MC firms (for example, operating model/change/human capital issues, supply chain strategies for a top retail company, or financial management). You should try to network your way to opportunities in Management Consulting at Accenture, as well as look at the companies you listed.

A lot of skills you pick up at analyst level in ACN are quite generic - so yes they will apply. Some analysts will try and convince you they doing something more important than you, but really they have not picked up much you haven't - they may have been doing PowerPoint, you may have been working with Visio..blah...blah...in terms of opportunity to develop interpersonal, communication and work skills you should be evens.I am also assuming you are in technology consulting and not ATS - in which case go and talk to your career counsellor about getting onto a business consulting job. As an analyst it will still be quite random so don't expect miracles. If you are actually in ATS then you may as well leave and join another firm, as you will be assumed rightly / wrongly to be not of the right callibre.Good luck and be confident.
