Not strictly MC but I'll ask anyway...1) Anyone know anything about these guys? http://www.newtonconsulting.co.uk/The work just seems as if it would be so much more interesting than doing the donkey work for some IT transformation project.2) What do people think about going in to a manufacturing career in this country. My first thought was that it would be a bad idea due to the lack of manufacturing these days. However, maybe manufacturing here has to focus on being efficient (cost effective) to compete with far east and ROTW and hence there will be a market for consultancy work in this area.Thoughts?

These guys came to recruit from my uni.....My understanding is that they are an engineering consultancy, mostly involved in improving manufacturing efficiency for their clients e.g. P&G, Unilever, breweries.....I do recall that their grad package is very generous...including a company car......but I couple of friends of mine who applied mentioned a tough recruitment process....

What do YOU want to do within this industry?Manufacturing still exists 'in this country' (assuming you mean the UK) albeit it is being slowly but surely outsourced to other countries. This decline is steady but unpredictable, especially in current global climate of financial constraints, but it is declining. Competition is fierce hence companies are looking to improve areas within to better align themselves for the future. Inevitably the shift will happen, but when, who knows. Having sufficient knowledge and experience is one thing, stepping into a manufacturing and engineering company and proving these savings is another. I've seen too often how Consultants have fabricated the time and space to dupe some dimwit in the organisation to do some overpaid work to improve some process only to dismally fail citing blame on the customer not providing clarity in their requirements. All you then hear is cackles of laughter, similar to those made by Mutley, whilst simultaneously rubbing their hands in glee at the $$$ billed. Newton is one of them, but then it does have alot of Oxbridge toffs who are overconfident airheads who because of their academic excellence they 'know it all'.
