Speaking as a HH I hate getting calls from people - invariably if someone has to call me unprompted they are not right for the role. I much prefer to make the approach.The advice about linkedin etc is useful - you need to get your name known and something about yourself, whether this is a linkedin profile, speaking at some conferences, publishing articles etc. I wouldn't bother sending your CV to HH firms to 'register' - we don't work like that, and if you make the mistake of sending your CV to a company of cowboys it will be round the market before you know what is happening with a resulting loss of market value.
