more to life?

Have an offer to join later this year - it's good (obviously) but starting to wonder if is it worth having no life? (even for a few years before moving on)Sound like a stupid question? Maybe but, career prospects aside, what about enjoying life?

Working at McK will be like working in any other consultancy, but you will earn more money and kudos.Mck, being the most pretigious firm, pays also more attention to work/life balance than smaller firms. So go for it!

Self evidently all down to you and your priorities in the work/life balance. Some strategy firms are HORRIFIC i.e. 80/90 hour weeks. I don't think McKinsey is quite that bad but will still be demanding. www.vault.com well worth looking at for employee surveys and it suggests 60-80 hours pw. They absolutely key thing is that if you can survive a minimum of 2 years it will open doors throughout the rest of your career, not just because of the alumni aspect but mainly because people will always see "McKinsey" on your CV and assume you are top notch. There are very few firms that can do that. If you don’t think you can stick it for 2 years then there is a risk that people will see you as a McKinsey failure which is clearly not as good a place to be. Good luck. Just notices Chris Sale has posted the same insight on two separate threads: what's up? too little insight and need to spread it thinly or something? Tell us something we cannot find on vault...

Agree with all these points, however would like to add that staying for less than 2 years would not be indicative of someone who is a "failure". What is the average (modal average) tenure for someone at MBB? 2 or, at most, 3 years? Many people who have been at MBB for even only a short spell have done extraordinarily well to even get in there in the first place. They are by no means 'failures'. Some will have been 'counselled out' by rigorous up-or-out policies (and lets be honest, some firms adjust the up-or-out standard each year depending on their staffing needs), and others will have discovered that the jet-set chapagne and Marriot hotel lifestyle isn't all it was cracked up to be and will have left for something that won't leave them burnt out and their family life ruined by the time they are 30.
