HiI am looking for a bit of advice. I am currently in a full time position with a 3 month notice period. I am really interested in starting contracting but the 3 month notice period is going to put off a lot of potential employers. I am considering handing in my notice and then looking for a contract closer to the end of my notice, but I am concerned that this is a risky option. Could anyone give me any advice on how easy it is to find work? How did you start out?Vikki

3 months is not unheard of these days. I recently applied for a fairly junior (2 years exp) position and was totally honest about my 3 month notice period from the start. They offered me the job to start asap. I tried to negotiate, but my old company wanted me to stay the 3 months. If they like you and want you, they'll wait for you.

Thanks, maybe I will hang in there for a bit before taking such drastic action.

you cant contract if you need to give 3 months notice - you need to be avail within 3 weeks generally from nterview to start - often quicker..that's how you get to earn 2 / 3 times the money a permie earns...save up a few months living expenses - hand in notice - 4 weeks before being available put ur cv out there...interview and start...1 or 2 giood projects should give enough cash not to worry about notice periods again or indeed having a few months free from working and therfore earning anything...

I am in the same position and wondered about any recommendations around good agencies and how to land that first contract?
