Booz is seperating it's us government business and commerical business. It's made official:http://www.boozallen.com/news/39856120?lpid=66005I think this is a very good move. Booz's name was detoriating as they were seen both a strat. consulting house and also a government contractor. Now, the commercial business is going back to roots, and become a pure play strat house. The thing is, the name of the new company. Government contractor remains Booz Allen, and the commercial side is going get named / branded. I guess "Booz" part is still going to be there, but probably with something like "Strategy partners" after it.Overall, I think it is a good move. It should end the confusion between the two. Over the few years, as the government side grew, and hired zillions of employess (ranging from IT guys to some random dude from Lockheed), "elitism" of the brand started detoriating. Now, the elitism of Booz (Strategy part) is restored back, hence should put it back to the MBBB leauge. What do you guys think?

lets not forget that the US organisation pushed boozes headcount to something like 21,000 - giving it some weight - what is it now? under 1000? are they in the same league as the other MBB? i;m not sure.also, the biggest booze assignments in strategy made use of resources from the us government side. i read on this forum they made some big staff cuts in london.this could go either way...

Well,I guess these are also valid points. I suppose, without the government side, they are about the size & revenue of Bain, so I would say they are not that small.Headcuts are everywhere, also in NYC they had been laying off people. This could be either because1) They are removing some strategy people who would as well look at government side, thus not needed any more2) Using the split as a good excuse to cherry pick the good people and give boot to some they think they can replace with better peopleOverall, I think as more weight government gained, the company started loosing it's attractiveness. in 2005 they were ranked 7th in Fortune's "top 50 companies where MBA's want to work" ranking, in 2007 they are 16th. I suppose, this has a lot to do with the increasing "government" side of the business, which clearly is not very appealing to Top MBA people.I guess it all depends how they handle the split.
