Human Capital media consulting

I would be interested to know what the perception is of Human Capital, the media strat firm, within the media consulting arena. Would joining such a boutique with a little experience be preferable to joining say MBB in their media practice assuming I had the option of doing either? I get the impression the work at HC might actually be more interesting than the kind of work MBB do in this sector...

The answer will rather depend upon how you define "preferable". MBB will look better on your CV if you wish to pursue a career in consulting, finance, or with big business adn give you access to a wider global network. On the other hand, Human Capital (or a similar boutique) may offer a better working environment, friendlier team, better projects within a particular niche, earlier client exposure, and better contacts within London. If you are already set on your career direction, a boutique with that speciality can make sense. If you are still searching for direction, a larger generalist firm can make sense.

So, the message seems to be that if I want a CV that plays well to other consulting firms, finance and big business I should go for MBB. However, small boutiques would suit better if I wanted a small business/London focus. That makes the boutique route sound very limiting to me. Anyone got any other comments?

Niche rather than small clients - they could be small specialist divisions within a huge organisation like the BBC.More limited? Yes, that is generally the trade-off for specialization.

I get the impression that Human Capital are largely dependent on a couple of clients and so you may find it a tad repetitive.

Good work, nice people, small client base, VERY UK focused, limited Straregy work, low-ish pay. Basically, if you fancy yourself as a hot player in media PE some day Human Capital is prob not the best choice.

I disagree, Human Capital is one of the finest boutiques around as far as media is concerned. Their work is alo about as "glam" as it gets in strategy consulting. You won't be working in the bowls of some bank thats for sure.

I don't work in media consulting, but from what I read about Human Capital, and who's there, it sounds like the new Spectrum.
