Government and commercial practices are likely to split - that's been on the table (and public) for a while. Churn due to redundancy is difficult to analyse as there is a lot of turnover anyway with contractors rolling on and off for specialised government projects.

i know of a lot of people who were due to work in London starting jan this year, who have now been shipped off to dubai, or lost their job. nightmare position post milkround for those that didnt want to go abroad, and were sitting pretty on an offer and plans. 4k compensation doesnt really cut it. Surprised not seen more on a forum such as this about such a big consultancy reneging on offers.

I am surprised there hasn't been more on here too. There were redundancies earlier in the year and there has been a recruitment freeze in place for quite some time. Why are Booz being hit so much harder than anyone else?Any inside views on what is going on?

This isn't exactly new news:http://ftalphaville.ft.com/blog/2008/01/16/10205/booz-allen-in-talks-to-break-up-business/Plenty of people will taking the opportunity to get out, as with any such change of ownership. It isn't necessarily a conclusive guide to the firm's longer-term prospects though - people can leave because they disagree with the logic of the change, because they don't like the uncertainty, or just because they know the new ownership will boot them out anyway.

Whoa. Booz merging with a Big 4 IT firm? I don't know where you got that idea from, but personally I very much doubt it! Sure they do a lot of IT stuff on the WTB side, but the WCB business is about strategy, not IT! I can't even start to imagine how much it would disrupt their business if they merged with a Big IT company. For instance, if the partners did an ACN and sold out to another company, then a) what would motivate said partners to keep on selling work or even stay in the company for that matter (and in consulting, the people ARE the business), and b) what could possibly incentivise all those hard working principals and senior associates who are working all hours under the sun and are a stone's throw away from the pot of gold under the rainbow (partnership) if they suddenly find out that partnership is no longer an option?anyway those are just some random thoughts. probably barking up the wrong tree here but was certainly surprised to hear about a possible merger with an IT firm.
