As mentioned previously on the forum, Prince2 is pretty much king in the UK especially within the public sector. Training is widely available throughout the UK, if you have recent exposure then you may be able to pass the exams by purchasing the authorised books. I have found the practitioner qualification to be of great value. I am not so sure about PMI, but from what I can gleam it has more global coverage and recognition.

hey phones,i´d choose PMI for global cv and prince if you are related to gov and the uk/us because it´s best known and preferred in these regions. APM I don´t know reputation etc.Go 4 pmi.pat

Go with PMI if you can...you have to submit evidence that you covered 4,500 hrs of proj mgmt though in different process areas, with Prince 2 you buy the material, read/learn and sit/pass the exam to get a certificate.Prince 2 is a lifecycle/framework (good to know) and PMI is a set of best practices (better to have - 4hrs of multiple choice questions though)

If you understand projects you can get PRINCE 2 with very little effort and limited financial outlay. You don't need to go on one of these fancy courses, just read the book!

material is all on http://www.prince2.org.uk/Publications/PRINCE2Books.aspthere are two examsthe first (foundation) is multi choice and you can pass by just looking at the example papersthe second (practitioner) is much harder and not as easy to pass without some traininghaving PM experience will help (a bit) but the difficulty is getting used to the language used - its not like in real life!

Just curious, what types of positions value a cert like the PMP?Is the PMP aimed more towards IT and operational consulting? I suppose strategy consulting would be different, correct?
