I am a manager at one of the big consulting firms and have been based in London for a year- I am worried that my next role may require me to travel- i dont want a life away from the kids or wife - should i think about moving out of consulting or can I specify that I want to work in London only for personal reasons?How good are firms at listening to individual needs or are they not at all? will i get any say if i get asked to go to a remote part of the worldwould appreciate some advice from people who have been in a similar situation

Clients for Financial Services will be mainly based in London, so that is one option. I don’t think your job would be very secure in that sector at the moment though.Also something worth considering is the profile of work held by the firm. I work for PA, and nearly all my clients are within the M25. PA may not pay very well, or have many big client names, but the work-life balance is good.
