I have 4 years experience with an IT consultancy and am looking for a new job with less travel as I want to settle down.My work so far has been in a highly specialised area and i) I'm pretty sure my experience won't be applicable elsewhere ii) I don't think its anything worth basing my career on iii) I'm not sure I would want to continue doing it anywayI've been considering a complete change of career. I've had one offer (doing intellectual property) but it involved a 50% pay cut so I had to turn it down. I have very good academics and I'm sure if I found the right job, I would excel. I'm quite annoyed at myself for getting into this situation and really need some good careers advice. I would gladly pay for this. Can anyone recommend a good, impartial careers advisory service?

Hi,Can you not sell your current skillset with a slightly different angle into another company. Some skills you do for your current job must apply to others???What kind of industry has your consultancy work been focused on?

OK, thank you. Basically, I've been going around tailoring and installing specialist IT systems for banks. A friend has suggested switching sides and working for the bank but I'm not sure continuing with it would be for the best decision in the long term. I have good overall awareness of software lifecycles and some project management. However the technical skills involved are unlikely to be used elsewhere. Hence, I could do with some good careers advice as to my next move.

You could try searching for "career coaches", which seems to be the term a lot of them go under these days. I don't have any personal experience of any, but I think I've seen adverts on LinkedIn if you keep an eye out.
