While I'm not actively seeking a new role, I have been considering putting my CV on a job site or two to see if anything particularly enticing comes up. Now I may be a little paranoid, but is there any way that my current employer (Big 4) could see my details on there? For example through their HR or possibly an external recruitment consultant.I'd really hate to be put in an awkward situation.

All the main web cv sites have a facility to post your cv anonymously.

Thanks Mars,Is there anyway of making the CV more annonymous, without taking anything away, apart from your name? Each person could have a unique educational/ work background and therefore make them easy to spot. Or is this just being a bit TOO paranoid?

You are being too paranoid; internal HR won't have the time/inclination to try and identify every single CV they see on a website from their firm. It would a) take ages b) potentially land them in trouble if they guess wrong and were to confront the wrong person c) it is not illegal or contrary to contract anyway so there is nothing they can do even if they did id you. Which they won't.If it puts your mind at rest, simply replace the name of your firm with Big 4 Management Consultancy or similar phrase.

One important factor I'd have thought is whether the job board in question allows direct employers to have access to the CV database. When we launched our own CV database we branded it "Get Headhunted" - ie. it can be accesssed only by recruitment agencies and not by actual employers. Our rationale for this was that consultants at Accenture, Capgemini, Deloitte, etc would be deterred from using the service if they thought their own HR team might have direct access.Food for thought.Tony RestellTop-Consultant.com

Good point about the Get Headhunted cv board, but that is designed for a specific forum i.e. MC, whereas the more generic ones - Monster etc - are accessible by HR should they wish to do so (and are willing to pay the fees).
