Doesn't matter where you're based - you will be expected to travel extensively. If you want to be home based, don't be a consultant

Insightful comment, well done.Addressing the actual question: I've been told that all their consulting in the UK is London based for home offices and that the software development practices and finance work is done in Hampshire.

IBm expect to offshore most of the UK workforce (Delivery and Technical) and are working on addressing 'Cultural' differences, its the main focus for 2008, so your going to have to travel and I dont mean UK. Having said that it should be an exciting year.

Will IBM end up like Micro, SAP, Oracle..? say having just sales/marketing/Research labs in Europe? Can not see that happening within the next 3-4 years though. Probably they are waiting until the big outsourcing contracts are running out/get cancelled, lean out as many as possible and then sell GBS to a hedge fund or Wipro..
