Hi, I am a newly qualified teacher of ICT and business (since September 2007), i have been disenchanted by teaching; I feel like i am losing all my knowledge and expertise in both IT and business. I have a BA (hons) in international business studies and an Msc in web enterprise (with a strong focus on mobile system); I also speak French fluently and have an advanced level in Spanish. I feel really frustrated teaching spreadsheet or web creation to teenagers who don't really care and who swear at me sometimes. So, I am seriously thinking about a career in IT and business consulting. I think it is the best career path for me as it will allow me to be continuously challenged. However, i still have doubts and concerns; i am not quite sure whether the experience i have gained this year will be valued by a consulting firm. Where do I really fit? I am thinking about applying for a graduate training programme so i can learn and get relevant experience in consulting. Do you think it's a good idea? I have reached a really critical point; i don't think i'll be able to teach another year. I would really welcome any advice. Thank you

WTF - next thing you will be asking contributors on this forum to come round and wipe your a**e. If you want to move into MC then get on with it - it's survival of the fittest so don't expect someone to come and hold your hand. If you think teaching is tough welcome to the private sector...

hey! i am not saying teaching is particulary tough.I am just saying that i am wasting and losing my knowledge and skills. By the way i challenge you to handlle a class of 27 heyperactive teanagers on a friday afternoon. Anyway, life is tough everything is tough. I just want to feel valued and to be challenged intellectualy. That is why i believe consulting is for me.

Well if that's how you feel what exactly are you waiting for? A pat on the back congratulating you on this decision? Go out and do something about it. Period.

"I just want to feel valued and to be challenged intellectualy. That is why i believe consulting is for me."HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA. Many of the people in consulting are worse behaved than schoolkids (immature, backstabbers, etc)! And unless you're some kinda superstar or go in at partner level, you ain't gonna get much of a fuzzy warm 'valued feeling' either! If you think the school environment is tough, you ain't seen nothing yet sir. Remember you're still dealing with schoolkids, except they're now 20 years older and have learnt a few tricks along the way (maturity and personal responsibility not being one of them).
