now Im curious. People say Consulting together with IB are probably the jobs with one of the highest working hours across most industries. So lets see, how it really is.How many hours a week do you on average work?

@ stobart:maybe you should re-read this thread once more. Noone has complaint in any way about their workload. No wining, no burnout - just some statementsbut sure I understand you: lorry driving probably doesnt really challenge your mind so you are excused...

this is a great thread and is slowly disproving the myth repeatedly perpetuated on here that 90 hour weeks are the normIt seems that hours are pretty similar to industry, around 45-50 a week

It seems salaries are not really that great when you look at salary divided by hours worked. In all honesty if you were offered a strategic consultant role in MBB or a head of strategy role in industry, say telecoms because that's where i work, which would you take? For more detail to help...the MBB role offered £100K with 60 hour weeks and the telecoms role offered £75K with 45 hour weeks?

Ehm, the salary per hour in your example is absolutely the same.. Hence, I'd go for the MBB role.. More challenging and more rewarding, with better future possibilities..

That was kind of my point. The salary was the same but with one you would have more time to enjoy it. Personally, I would like more time not working....to spend with friends and family

I consult in ERP (yes yes SAP) and the hours worked depend at what stage of the project you are on. Coming up to go live they are hidieous, including weekends, at engagement phase not so bad. Over all would have to say too many. Working today for example.... Travel time depending on where you are going. I've got a project in Amercia so weekend travel and weekends at site .... does time away count? So maybe I won't work next weekend but I'm still away?
