Hi all, Like everyone here, I am very interested in Consulting and had accepted an offer from a low range consulting, after joining, I feel anxious about the manager with whom I had to work (old man, not inspiring anyway...) and left in the 1st week. After that, I had an interview with mid range consulting firm, and tell the story to the interviewer, she takes it as I couldn't support the hard work of consultants (despite explaining to her, she stayed in her version), and of course I didn't got my second round interview. In my perspective, it was that I will not accept less than very good practise of consulting, it was not convincing enough.

You left during your first week? Bit premature don't you think!

Must have been terrible having to work for an old man. How old were they?Of course I am sure you will have retired when you reach that age. Or perhaps you will not get any older.

I suppose it must seem odd to an interviewer that you left after a week anyway. It would also seem odd to leave because of one uninspiring manager in a project and not line based environment. If I left everywhere because of one uninspiring manager I would probably never survive anywhere

Here, i am talking about my first job just after graduation , and it seems to me that I will loose my time anyway, or 0 learning opportunities with that old man ...the context is also different, we are not talking about US or Europe, it is Africa here....In short, it was this gap between my initial aspiration and reality that causes me to quit, I ve choose to look out for better than that.

Still likely to appear odd to an interviewer. Is there any reason you feel the need to say you worked there in the first place? I certainly have a friend who quit his first job after a couple of months and then has managed to get very good jobs after that without ever mentioning that first short stay.

In summary, you took a low tier job and quit after a week. The reason you quit was one old guy. Problem: You. Grow up.Solutions: Do a masters. Travel the world. Do anything to explain the gap in your cv.No solution at all: Bitching about your former employer. Start thinking like the recruiter and stop listening to your mother.

Summary: The firm was lower than my aspirations & expectations. We are talking here about a firm with no senior consultants, just the old guy manager (very tired for me) and some juniors handling the whole works, u can't find that any where in consultancy. AND juniors quits in less than one year (>100% rotation rate), ....
