Is there any UK firm still offering Final salary pensions, as I just noticed mine is worth a lot less all of a sudden due to the shifts in the credit markets.Ill need a £15k raise kind of now to cover this, so just wondering before I jump ship, as I plan to retire before 60 :)

bumpsimilar question on pensionsif I changed jobs and moved from final salary to money purchase pension, how much extra salary (%) would I need to cover the risk, i.e. if I needed 10% to cover the risk, and I'm offered a 10% rise, I'm no better off

Well, I was reading an article this week that highlighted if you start your own pension at 27, you need to pay over 30% of your earnings until you retire to have a pension equivalent to half your final salary. Can't see many employers offering you a raise in that sort of range in the current climate. If you're young, you might jump and take your chances you'll make your money up elsewhere by a more rewarding career in the long run, if you're a bit older I'd be tempted to sit tight and push for early retirement at some point. What's clear is that if you move you'll likely never get another chance to join a final salary scheme. As for consultancies, I doubt any have final salary schemes, it's a case of make partner or they will pay the minimum we have to for the time you're there.

i'm 41, I feel trapped, job is fine but not that exciting, but with my long service benefits, final salary pension, pay is OK, good network around me, why would I leave for a few %, I'd want 20% absolute min, no chance
