Deloitte, no question about it. Search for EY BAS in all threads and you'll see why.....

You need your head read, if you pick E&Y over Deloitte.

I'm normally a big supporter of EY on here. It gets a pretty bad rap that I think is mostly undeserved, and it seems to me that most of the posters who write about EY aren't speaking from a position of authority or insight -- so take what you read with a grain of salt. However, as a graduate, I would have to concur with the other posters on here. Deloitte is a much more established consultancy and will be able to offer you a wider experience that you'll find at EY. Moreover, their graduate programme is well-defined and you'll definitely get some good experience. Both firms are good firms, though, and both will look excellent on your CV and will open a lot of doors for you going forward. Ultimately, you should pick the firm that you think will offer you the best training experience and where you get on best with the people. It's a first job, and getting the right credentials on your CV is as important as finding the job of your dreams.Good luck in your consulting career!

Ignore Village Idiot, the second part of his name is more apt. E&Y is going through a turbulent time. Deloitte is much better both for a grad and experienced hire.

Whoops. I made the mistake of introducing reason to my posts on here.Let me revise:EY = baaaaaad. Join them and you'll be on a fast train to nowheresville. In fact, I think they actually strip you of your CV when you walk in the door.Deloitte = heaven. Christmas Day witnesses the birth of their founder. Join them and all your sins will be forgiven, your dreams fulfillled.Much better th

Just to get back to the OP's query: I'd add my voice to the chorus for Deloitte. EY BAS are still going through a lot of growth pains, have high attrition, and certainly don't get the quality of work that Deloitte do.

Thank you so much for all the advice, I think the winner is obvious. But how about Deloitte vs a smaller niche consultancy?

Deloitte are probably the better starting point for a career in consulting, given the training and support network in place. In time, you may want to move into a niche. It's harder to make the move the other way around, IMHO

What TNT said. Deloitte (or any of the other big players) is a great place to get a good grounding in consulting and a well recognised and respected name on your CV. Cut your teeth with the big boys, then move to a specialist later on.
