Hi all,I will soon finish a PhD in economics, and I am considering the option of joining an economics consultancy such as NERA, Frontier, etc. Do you know if working for one of these involves the same long-hours/travelling as working for a management consultancy? Thanks for your coments.

Good question.Economic consulting is slightly different from 'management consulting in thqt you will almost always be working from your company offices. The only time you go to vclient sites is when you present findings, even that is unlikely.Conventional management consulting like the SI, SAP rubbish that Accenture do needs to be done at the client site so the hours tnds to be longer and almost always working at client site.This also applies to the strat houses.but the money is less in economic consulting since utilisation is always lower. You normally get lots of little packages of work rather that big behemoth-type projects. However it is far more intellectually challenging and business-orientated rather than the turgid SI,SAP stuff that ACN do.Zbigniew Brzezinski
