Hi Guys,Is anyone out there a member of BA Air Miles? If so, could you provide any insight as to how much you need to be spending in order to build up enough miles to fly long distance (e.g. US, S.America, Asia etc) for free? Thanks in advance.

Are people too lazy to look themselves nowadays. Or just too stupid.Go to the BA web page, go into the executive club and then select spending your air miles. This tells you all you need to knowTo answer your question the US is 50000 airmiles which is roughly £14000 on economy flights

Lazy is what I'm goin with. But really the BA website isn't the best in the world. 80,000 for Singapore, 100,000 for OZ the spend versus award is better with the Star Alliance (the BMI one)

Get yourself a BA Axex card, you'll rack up the miles quicker, and you get a compainion voucher to use when you claim a free flight. Well worth it.

I would 2nd that. the credit card is a good choice. Also the BA system starts to be a lot more attractive once you get enough points to be upto silver. The issue I have found is that even if you are flying every week on economy within europe you aren't picking uo that many miles and no tier points. 20 short haul returns in europe got me less points than one last minute economy to SA and hugely less tier pointsSorry for being harsh with my earlier response. long day and all that :-)

Also have a look at the BA forum on flyertalk.com for other ways to rack up miles quickly, and for special codes and promos to get best use from your miles…

Is this what they call the American Dream? Counting coupons and collecting air miles?

If you get an BA Amex card be sure to go for the Premium plus version. It gives you more miles for your spend and a lower threhold for the companion ticket. The sting is that there is a £120 a year fee for joining. HOWEVER, What isn't advertised is that if you take out a Amex Blue Card (i.e not the BA one, nut the white one with the hologram, for which there is no fee) the premium plus annual fee drops to a much more palatable £30!

Thanks MilesMore - do you have a link to that, as I can't seem to find any reference to this on the BA or Amex websites...
