Guys,Would someone with 3-4 years experience at Accenture Strategy (SITE) have a good shot at a top MBA?

why the same questions every day

Getting into a top MBA is much more about yourself then any employer you have on your CV. Look at the breadth and quality of your work experience, look at your achievments, look at your personality, look at you GMAT results. Do these rank among the top few percent and can you sell yourself well, then yes it does.

Tuck Me In

I worked for 4 years at Accenture in the business consulting practice (organization and change management, then org strategy). I am in business school at Dartmouth (Tuck). Your GMAT score, accomplishments in SITE, and self-awareness will make a big difference. It is odd: my friends in the SI&T practice, from the same college, with virtually identical numbers, were rejected. I think they like the management consulting and strategy people better.

Don't be too disgeartened though, I know of 2 people who left SI&T to go to Wharton and a lot go to Insead too so yes it does happen.I think the question really is whether Acn has a brand name to get in to a top MBA, the answer is yes, but there is way more to getting in than that alone.

Note that the original question was about SITE, not SI&T.

What is your GMAT score? What is a "top MBA" for you? What did you accomplish in SITE? What level are you at?

If your idea of a "top MBA" is a top 5 school in the US (and, to be honest, I question whether anything else is worth the investment) then as long as your GMAT is 700+, you have around 3-5 years experience and you got at least a 2:1 from a top tier UK uni then you can leverage the Accenture brand just as well as anywhere else. Its more about what you have done IN ADDITION to the basics mentioned above.

Business School

Top 15-20 are worth the investment if you are aiming for top firms. For example, US schools often ranked in the teens offer excellent opportunities in consulting and banking.Your GPA (US schools) is far less important than GMAT, work experience, and other factors. The GPA is most important to get your first job out of college. If you manage to do it without the 2:1, good for you. Business Schools will weigh the GMAT and experience far more (assuming tremendous career success and advancement).

Columbia MBA 2001

B-schools look at an individual's overall package. That's why you occasionally hear stories of people with perfect GMAT scores but are not even invited to an interview with some schools. At the other extreme you hear people who come from non-business backgrounds who get into top schools. For example, in my MBA class at Columbia we had a professional writer and people from acting backgrounds. And they more than held their own against the ex-bankers, consultants etc. Indeed the former TV soap star now works in Investment Banking and is doing very well for herself!Hence, why I'm trying to say is that you need to have a good story as to why you want to do an MBA, and how you will benefit from it (i.e. career change). Oh and BTW, I was ex-Accenture myself (although it was Andersen Consulting in my days) and I had no problems getting into a top school. So it can be done.
