Im about to join a well known firm from industry. I am worried that i won't be able to do it. I passed the interviews but when they mention building financial models it dawned on me i might not be able to do the job. So f i can drag out underperformance for several months where do i go!? Any advice?

Mate, I build financial models and I wouldn't say I'm the sharpest person I've ever met. Just don't try to model anything stupid and you'll be fine.

I concur with the two posters above.I recently joined an IB in a consulting role, i had exactly the same fears you have when I was told to model which was something I had never done or seen done before.Mate, it was easy. Chill out. You got through and with a bit of guidance from a supportive colleague you will sail through any model. Find a colleague nice enough and eager to help out, once you understand the basics it is easy.

It makes me happy to see that my original use of the word "mate" has perculated down to the subsequent posters.
