I currently work in the Strategy practice of a large full service firm and have been offered a job in Venture Capital. Given I *may* decide to return to consulting in the future, do people think this extra dimension of experience would be valued by top strat firms or would an MBA be a better bet at this stage. I am 27 btw.

how much does this new job pay

Venture Capital every time!! MBAs are commonplace these days, those with VC experience are certainly not. Plus there's the not insignificant consideration that an MBA will cost you an arm and a leg whereas a VC role will pay you rather handsomely - all to get to you a point where you'll be similarly valued by a potential future strategy consulting employer...

Thanks for that... It does seem like a pretty rare opportunity. On the subject of pay, it would be a jump of about 30%... not bad but not crazy money either. However I think the experience would build a great CV story.

Have a friend who got a break into the VC world. Started with a large European corporate. Has moved on to a smaller, tech focused VC house as a partner (he’s 29)Is making an ABSOSULTE FORTUNE. Would you care for a definition of “fortune”? Consulting Partner? Pah. Trader Level income.And he has a killer contact network. And he has no customers. Everybody he meets is desperate for his business. Oh, what a life.Make the right choice.

what £££ are we talking

I would be quite junior so I would say total comp around 65-100k. However the money in the first year is a minor consideration wnen one considers where it could lead in the medium term.
