Alfa - I had a 147 about 5 years ago - bought it as my 1st car - looked beautiful, but iof anything can break on it, it will. Promised myself I would never buy another Alfa when I sold it 2 years later......6 months ago fell in love with the Alfa GT - bought it, regretting that decision already - been back to garages twice. I think the design team at Alfa are all ex ferarri, and the engine team are all ex Skoda. Useless.

Why not german?German or Japanese are the most reliable by far. Why not look at What Car's website?

Typical consultant, listens to the scope and then produces something blatently contradicting it.

Audi, Mercedes, VW?You don't want a BMW because "everyone else has one"? Sounds like a sensible reason for writing off an entire country's automotive output!

If you don't want to go German or Japanese, you should take a look at a Saab. My mate picked up a 9-3 not too long ago and i was quite impressed.

Bloody hell I would be impressed too if I saw someone pick up a Saab - cars are really heavy!
