Hi,I'm new to this forum, but it looks the right place to ask for advice.I currently hold a director role in industry and am considering changing career to consultancy. I've marketing experience across a range of industries.How difficult is the move? Which consultancies would most value industry experience? Does consultancy always mean living away from home 4-5 days per week? Would I be working horrendous hours year-round? (Though my current working hours can be long.) Which consultancies are known to be nicer to work for? What would be the right level of consultancy role for which to apply?All thoughts and advice would be much appreciated.Has anyone here made a similar move? If so, of what should I be aware?

The critical issue is that the more senior you are in consultancy the more you are expected to bring in business. So a lot depends on quality of your network.

Many thanks for the reply, jj.Having recently read the salary review by this web site, the change to consultancy doesn't seem worth the loss of work/life balance.Considering all the travel and time away from home, I was very surprised that consulting salaries weren't much higher than well-paid roles in industry. (The latter, of course, don't require living in a hotel Mon-Fri.)Have consulting fees decreased then?

the numbers of this review are biased down by small consultancies. if you target one of the bigger strategy consultancies then u probably will not complain about their offer.
