Rolex's - Tacky - Yay or Nay?

Rolex are tacky. I prefer Breitlings myself.

I wouldn't say tacky, but they do say 'I follow the herd'.Just like buying a Porsche or a BMW they show a lack of flair or imagination.

Bought a lotus and it's cost me a fortune. Thinking about a bmw or merc because it's more straightforward. Make of that what you will.

A Rolex can be cool or tacky as Mars said.I'm also looking at buying a quality watch and have looked at the Air King and the Oyster Datejust. Both in steel. Classic and somewhat understated. And as for following the herd, I've noticed many people, consultants included, wearing Tag Heuers. You'll very rarely find someone wearing a Rolex.

How about having more than 1 watch? We wouldn't wear the same shoes for every occasion, so why the same watch? Something more classic and understated to go with a suit (such as the Oyster - excellent choice), something more 'sporty' such as a Tag or some of the Breitlings etc for weekends? Alternatively we could all start wearing Mickey Mouse watches, where his hands indicate the hours and minutes and forget about watches?

No Mr Mars! Anyone with more than one watch is circumspect in my book. You know, a bit fruity. One decent steel watch should suffice. Forget these johnny-come-lately brands like Tag and camp as f*ck Breitlings. Rolex forever!!!

Owning more than 1 watch is suspect? Isn't that alot like saying owning more than 1 suit is suspect? Hip Hop Master I think you are over-egging the importance of a watch!

I have a S/S rolex oyster but feel it does not look good with a suit. I see it as a sporty watch, which i wear casually. Additionally, I have a much louder watch for the evenings, which, addmittely, some may find brash. Once i buy an elegant yet understated leather-strapped watch such as a Longines to wear with a suit I think I'll have enough for all occasions. I like watches and certainly don't think owning more than one is fruity. The more the merrier!

I bought an older aston DB9 for a touch over £50k, about as much as a new BMW or Merc, but jesus it goes really fast.And the engine has the engineers signature on it, and all the interior is hand stitched.Dont get that on a BMW, or a new Ston actually.Oh and its not depreciating....yet...

Hip Hop Master - what exactly makes Breitlings camp as f*ck as you so elegantly put it? Given the size and weight of mine there's nothing remotely feminine about it. Its the discerning gentleman's choice from a company steeped in avaition history. I'd choose one over a Rolex/Omega/Tag any day of the week.

Mr Taxman I worry about your ability in your role as you clearly do not have a good grasp of the numbers game.Your old Aston would have cost £80k to £85k when new. It has been depreciating ever since that point.

Personally I opted for the new Grande Complication by Jean Dunand. It really packs in the features with a mono-pusher split-second chronograph, split-second hand isolator, minute repeater, tourbillon, bi-retrograde perpetual calendar, and even a see-through sapphire back signed by its creator, Christophe Claret.LOL... C'mon guys... we're talking about watches. I for one usually use the clock on my mobile phone these days. ~SVP... keepin' it real.

Too many old timers around here that think appearance don't count.Time for change gents, make a bit of effort. These people pay a ton of money to have you work on their site, the least you can do is show them you mean business. Fitted suit, smart watch, clean polished shoes. You wouldn't present them with a shoddy half assed powerpoint presentation to represent your firm, why avoid making effort when it comes to presenting yourself?

Yep, make sure you look good - but don't over-do it. A 24 year-old wearing a nice watch and a decent suit with polished shoes looks great. The same 24 year-old turning up to a client site wearing a £1,500 Armani suit and a £4,000 Rolex and £750 Jimmy Choos looks like a plonker.

Mr Taxman's Aston would have been about £105k new if its a DB9 not a AMV8 so its depreciated a hell of a lot. So much so in fact that it must be an absolute dog as even the oldest DB9s are commanding £75k at the moment. I smell the distinct odour of bullsh!t coming from his post.

Yes noticed that I got it second hand, and its not depreciated as I got it for a touch over 50k (Wont say how much) and as you point out £85k seems to be the going rate. Honestly yoyu lads should read, hopefully none of you get let loose on PQQ's or ITT's any time soon, there would be an outbreak of mirth at your submissions.

So Mr Taxman you were being modest rather than boastful with the 50k statement on the Aston then, fair play in that case. Is an absolutely gorgeous car - enjoy!
