Just wondered what people think about the MBA. I hear people saying that they want to do an MBA to progress their careers and move up the management ladder. However, from my experience, it is not financially and career-wise worth it. I mean everyone knows that MBBB take people specifically with MBAs, but I know of people who do not have them and entered in at levels above Associate (typical MBA hire level) without an MBA. And once you get in, it’s really down to you how far you go in the firm. By the way the CEO’s (current that is) of BCG, Mck and BAH none of them have MBAs. If you come in with 5/6/7 years of solid experience within a sector (ideally from consulting) and apply to these firms, I’m think that you are just as sought-after compared to if you have 3/ 4 years of exp then do an MBA (at great cost lets not forget). Remember, contrary to popular belief, experience to clients is far more useful in the short and long-term compared to additional educational qualifications. I constantly hear clients asking me how X or Y is done in other companies that I have worked with, rather than ‘is there anything in your MBA that could help us solve these problems’Any thoughts on this.
