After loads of applications, interviews and rejections I had finally been successful and offered a job with Deloitte in September. I am joining as an analyst within the Technology Integration section. It's a massive move for me having lived in Glasgow all my life and am moving down to London for a whole new life. The problem is I'm finding it so daunting! I know it's a great opportunity but I've got so much fear, anxieties about what I'm letting myself in for! The first 8 weeks is total training al over the place from London to Birmingham from Holland to Ireland. Loads of early starts and late night finishes and even exams for BSC qualifications too! Then there is the whole moving to London thing - I haven't a clue where I'm going to stay, where to rent a place and what it will be like! This is a life changing thing and I guess it's just the fear of the unknown the closer it gets to Sept. It's also big for me cos I'm a big family sort of person and intend to keep in touch etc and make the effort to visit but even that isn't all the feasible initially cos of the busy schedule for first 8 weeks including 2 days where we have to travel on a Sunday!I know I'm just being over dramatic and it'll all work out good in the end just wondered if anyone else had any experiences of first starting on a new job and maybe felt the

Hi MikeIts all perfectly normal for you to feel like this the trick I found ( i moved to dublin) is to take it one day at a time try not to panic focus on the first 8 weeks at first , try and make a good mate you can trust and use as a sounding board as I find if you say something like "ah i miss home" someone is always in the same boat as you. Don't make promises to home that you can't cover e.g. "I'll see you next week" as that will add pressure for you and disappoint your family when you can't make it.As for the moving thing look at websites that will help you find accommodation and if things go wrong someone once told me "tomorrow is a another day" cheesy yes but for me helpful. Hope this helps an good luck

MikeCut the apron strings, strap on a pair, and chuck out the waterwings.Get on with it - you're moving to London with Deloitte, not being asked to parade in central Baghdad wearing a sign saying "I love America".What's up with the kids today????

This is the funniest thread I have ever read. Mike grow some cahunas for Pete's sake. London will eat you alive with your current attitude. Get a flat share with some other sorry analysts in Clapham and enjoy the drinking and sh*gging that goes with your training. If that does not make you grow some then nothing will. Glasgow versus London? London wins hands down. Scared of travelling and late nights? You sure you want to get into consulting? Embrace life young man don't shy away from it. BCS exams? Other people pass them so why not you? Wait till you are asked to pass your CIMA exams as well. Lol...

Well its the 6.30 from Glasgow for you, ill wave if I see you in the BMI lounge. London is fine, think Glasgow but no-one outside of the building speaks english. The summers are nice, and the people are nice too, you will work from 8am to 8pm but you have an advantage, no distractions.Your down there, no wife/girlfriend/kids to ensure your home by x o-clock, you can bet others will have this problem, so you can get stuck into the work. And another tip, in the morning the cheese toastie is about the best thing on the BMI red-eye, on the way back chicken and black pepper. As for staying somewhere, the London property market is in a slide, plenty of man rapists will be happy to rent a room out to you. or rent you out to the room...whatever!

Taxman, come on London is nothing like Glasgow. I love getting back to the slower pace of life for a weekend, less people, more countryside, not as much hussle and bustle, cheaper booze, less arrogance....

The best one is when looking for flats to rent and suddenly your heart sinks when the £300 is 'per week'...
